The Christmas season is accompanied by a uniquely popular and significant body of music spanning multiple genres, and it’s no wonder that there are so many varied piano collections to choose from, whatever your level.
Once again this year, Pianodao has a round up of favourite choices…
Savouring Christmas Music
Perhaps this year more than ever, in the likely absence of large concert and church celebrations, the opportunity to enjoy seasonal music at the piano is even more important than ever, both for us as pianists and for those closely in our intimate family and friend circle.
I would like to personally encourage you to make the most of every opportunity to perform and play for family, friends, and to share recordings of your playing however and wherever you feel comfortable.
It seems to me that there is an opportunity for us all to share, in our smaller family groups, an intimate communal and even more avowedly spiritual season of goodwill this winter, in accordance with our many and varied beliefs and values. And I really hope that Pianodao readers will find ways to make music a central focus.
Favourite Christmas Music
In this mega-review, I’ll be surveying the “studio essentials” and evergreens which have proved popular with my students and friends over recent years, together with a reminder of two top publications fresh for 2020.
And as before, I will group together my round-up of books according to their difficulty level:
- Beginner to Elementary (up to UK Grade 2)
- Intermediate (up to UK Grade 5)
- Advanced (from UK Grade 6)
As always Pianodao Tea Room members will receive a 20% discount from Musicroom for any of the publications included in the review, and all other sheet music purchases using the discount code advertised on our Facebook community page.
So let’s Cracker On!
