The Thinking Pianist 2023

Supporting Your Piano Playing Journey
Written by ANDREW EALES

After having a wonderful time at The Thinking Pianist course last summer, I am delighted to be joining the faculty once again this year. Read on to find out more…

About the course…

The course is running from Saturday 15th until Saturday 22nd July 2023, and I will be there for three days to teach, deliver presentations for players and teachers, and above all to meet piano enthusiasts from around the UK and beyond.

The teaching faculty comprises myself, Penelope Roskell, Mengyang Pan, Tim Horton, and course director David Jones. The setting is once again Cheltenham Ladies College, where those coming will enjoy outstanding facilities, accommodation and food.

A distinctive of this course, which welcomes around 30 participants, is its emphasis on the whole player: mind, body and soul. To that end, the faculty is again joined by Katie Maughfling (Wellbeing, Yoga), John Underhill (Alexander Technique) and Olly Leonard (Wellbeing, Tai Chi).

To find out more about the unique ethos and value of this superb course, please check out my interview with Course Director and founder David Jones, which you can read here.

You can also read the reviews and testimonials written by last year’s delegates (including, *blushes*, comments on the sessions I gave).

At last year’s course, I was immensely impressed by the supportive environment, informal and friendly atmosphere, and by the equal care given to pianistic excellence and personal wellbeing.

I rarely commit to projects or events that take me away from my busy studio, and only do so in special cases. This is one such, and I can’t recommend the course highly enough.

If you are lucky enough to get along I look forward to seeing you there!
